Poem: Steady Rise

“Steady Rise”

Street after street after street
Riding the waves of people and emotion
A city thrives
Building burning and people gone
Still the city stands
Country fall and government change
But the city stays
Morphing to the city of dreams and aspirations
Risk and love intertwine to the base
This city will stand
Black ash can cover the land and suffocate at the ground
By the following spring the land will recover and breathe again
With petty consistency and vengeance accuracy the land and her people thrive
Pick the fruits of their labor

Tomorrow will be there
No matter the amount of screams shout for it stop
The people and the city will be there
Changed no doubt
Doubtful of the feeling of change
But it comes all the same before time
The ability to lack failing
Show the greatness we have
When we fail we’re still doing better
Hoping and holding on to luck and betterment of a tomorrow
We will have it
One way or another

Let the fire and brimstone come
By the morning light the city will be there
Let the state flood by all four lakes
The city will be there
If every person left and every building lay vacant
The city is still there
Something all permanent stapled to the world
The city is still here
While countries have fallen and will be remembered in books
The city is still here
Dreaming of leaving the city only to release that it was always the one
The city will stay here
Unmoving but always changing its colors
The city
The city stays forever and changing
