YOU CAN STIR THE GREAT MIX

Patrick Costello

Patrick Costello is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily in time-based mediums including installation and performance. His practice explores the impacts of history on present ecologies – giving specific attention to the collaborative relationships of care and control that define gardens and other cultivated landscapes. He tends to meadows and grasslands composed of plant species whose migratory paths span ecoregions of the American Southeast, Midwest, and Northeast. In 2024, Patrick received a MacDowell Fellowship and presented a new performance as the Artist-in-Residence at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. He participated as a panelist in Cultivating Queerness: Artistic Practice in Rural Spaces, a discussion organized by Amplify Arts in Omaha, NE and has exhibited work at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Socrates Sculpture Park, Queens, NY; and Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, Cazenovia, NY. He has performed in venues including Ars Nova, New York, NY; The Philadelphia Museum of Art; and The Public Theater, New York, NY. He holds an MFA from Hunter College and a BA from the University of Virginia.
